Kanter/MIVOS String Quartet Composition Prize 2011MIVOS Quartet is pleased to announce the inaugural Kanter/MIVOS String Quartet Composition Prize. The competition is designed to promote the works of talented young composers currently residing in the United States. The winner will receive a $300 cash award, $100 travel stipend (if applicable), and a performance by the MIVOS Quartet in New York City during the 2011-12 season. The Kanter/MIVOS Prize is made possible through the generous support of Carl Kanter. Application Guidelines:Eligibility: composers currently residing in the United States who are age 35 or younger at the time of submission.Applications will only be accepted via email, to mivoskanterprize_gmail.com Composers should include the following application materials as email attachments: • Cover letter, pdf or MS Word format (must include applicant's name, address, phone number, date of birth, and email, plus the title, duration and year of the composition) • Program notes* • Full score (do not include parts). Files must be in pdf format. Composers name should not be included in the score (scores will be reviewed anonymously). • Audio recording of the piece (MIDI rendering is acceptable). Files must be in mp3 format.**not required, but strongly recommended Compositions must be scored for 2 violins, viola and cello, and may not exceed 30 minutes in length. Works involving electronics and other media will not be accepted.Submissions must be time-stamped by May 1, 2011, 11:59pm EST. The competition will take place in two rounds. A maximum of ten finalists will be notified via email by June 1, 2011. Finalists will be required to submit hard-copies of their scores and parts via postal mail by June 15, 2011. The competition winner will be announced in July 2011. The piece will be performed by the MIVOS quartet during the 2011-2012 season.Please direct all inquiries to mivoskanterprize_gmail.com
